To celebrate the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) turning 200 years old in 2020, the Society has established an Outreach and Engagement Fund of £1,000,000 to support astronomy and geophysics projects that create a real buzz about science – understanding, discussion and dialogue – in diverse sections of the community.
This money has been allocated to nine extraordinary projects from varied, innovative and inspiring partners. These include Girlguiding UK, Bounce Back who work in prisons, the Workers’ Educational Association and The Princes Trust. All of these projects are working with ‘non-traditional’ audiences and have been funded over a number of years giving them the opportunity to really embed astronomy in their work and establish sound and meaningful partnerships.
Working with Jenesys Associates we are delivering the programme evaluation for the RAS, looking at the impacts and outcomes across all the projects and ensuring that the learning from this anniversary celebration can be used to inform other public engagement and outreach work in the future.
